Summary: Testing quickly and widely has become one of the more successful ways of curbing the spread of coronavirus. Bedford-based Mologic, who developed a rapid testing kit for Ebola, were granted around £1 million from the UK government to develop a rapid diagnostic test for COVID-19. This British company is developing a cheap 10-minute test for less that $1 for Africans. The work is taking place in Cambridgeshire – about 350 miles from partner company Omega’s base in Scotland. By combining Mologic’s independently verified COVID-19 lateral flow test with BioSure’s market-leading design, the companies have created a self-test for COVID-19 that can be used without any training being required. The innovative design has been proven to be extremely easy to use, requires only a fraction of a drop of blood and gives the user their own result in just 10 minutes. Since launching the first CE marked HIV self-test in 2015, BioSure -partner of Mologic in this project- has become a world-leading expert in self-testing.
