Redpoint Investors

The term "redpoint" was coined by Kurt Albert in the mid-1970s at Frankenjura. A redpoint is a clean ascent while leading a route made on a second or further attempt. This means no falls and no resting on the equipment, but you are allowed to practice the route extensively before making a redpoint attempt. He would paint a red X on a fixed pin so that he could avoid using it for a foot- or handhold. Once he was able to free-climb the entire route, he would put a red dot at the base of the route.
