The Robertson Foundation: NGO against COVID-19 Funding Support
Entity: Funding Support
Description: The Robertson Foundation is a private foundation established in 1996 by Tiger Management founder Julian H. Robertson, Jr., his wife Josie, and their family. The foundation takes a targeted, businesslike, results-oriented approach to philanthropy. The foundation makes large, transformative grants. Its objective is to leverage these grants by partnering with proven grantees and aligned funders. It seeks measurable outcomes in either the intermediate or longer term. The Robertson Foundation currently targets high impact grants in three principal areas within the United States: 1) education 2) environment and 3) medical research. As opportunities emerge, the foundation has provided grants in other areas of interest. The search for solutions to important public policy problems promises to take the Robertson Foundation in directions not yet identified.
1 Project
Phases 2 and 3 of the Project Bugbank.
Bugbank is a project that aims to link infection data from Public Health England to improve the study of infection in the UK Biobank cohort.
In light of the ongoing pandemic, the systems in place for Bugbank could be deployed to study Covid-19 infection caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in near-to real time. The linkage of data between PHE and UKB may enable researchers around the world to look for genetic, epidemological and lifestyle risk factors for severe infection. This information could provide invaluable clues as to why some people develop mild symptoms while others develop life-threatening disease. The repurposing of phase 2 for studying Covid-19 is ongoing, with updates to follow here.
